District Heating Plants and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plants
In district heating plants and combined heat and power (CHP) facilities, residual products are generated from the combustion process in the form of bottom ash, fly ash, and other particulates. To ensure continuous operation, these materials must be reliably transported away from boilers and flue gas treatment systems. Sludge may also be generated in connection with flue gas cleaning or water treatment processes. To handle these material flows efficiently, a combination of conditioning, thickening, dewatering, and material transport is required.
Polymer Preparation and Dosing
In flue gas cleaning and water treatment processes, sludge is often generated and must be treated before further handling. To improve the separation between liquid and solid particles, polymers are used to bind the particles into larger flocs.

Sludge Thickening
After conditioning, the sludge can be thickened to reduce its volume and create better conditions for subsequent dewatering. Autofric’s Sludge Thickener ABT concentrates the sludge by increasing the solids content, thereby improving the efficiency of further treatment.
Dewatering Using a Screw Press
Final dewatering is carried out using screw presses, where the sludge is pressed through several dewatering zones. During the process, liquid is separated from the solid particles, reducing the overall sludge volume.
The dewatered material is then easier to transport, store, or handle further.
Transport of Ash and Residual Materials
In energy facilities, robust transport systems are required to handle both ash and sludge between different stages of the process.
Autofric’s screw conveyors are used to transport ash and other bulk materials horizontally, inclined, or vertically within the plant. The conveyors can be dimensioned according to the facility’s capacity and layout.
